Overview

HypoSalix is an electrolyte-based saliva substitute indicated for the symptomatic relief of xerostomia (dry mouth). Developed by Parnell Pharmaceuticals, the product is formulated as an aqueous solution containing essential electrolytes—including sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, and phosphate—at concentrations that mimic the ionic strength and composition of natural human saliva. It functions primarily as a lubricant and moisturizing agent for the oral mucosa, alleviating discomfort associated with reduced salivary flow. Xerostomia often results from conditions such as Sjogren's syndrome, side effects of medications (e.g., antidepressants, antihistamines), or as a complication of head and neck radiation therapy. HypoSalix is typically administered as an oral spray to provide immediate, temporary relief of dryness and to facilitate oral functions such as speaking and swallowing.
