Hypothalamic phospholipid liposomes (marketed as Liposom Forte) are an injectable formulation composed of neuro-homologous phospholipids aggregated into nanometric liposomes, with the main components being phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, and phosphatidylethanolamine—together accounting for about 90% of total phospholipids. The predominant active phospholipid is phosphatidylserine, which is particularly significant for central nervous system activity. The formulation is enriched with long-chain fatty acids such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Mechanistically, hypothalamic phospholipid liposomes are postulated to enhance neuronal membrane structure and fluidity, improve neurotransmitter turnover (notably serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline), normalize cortisol secretion, reactivate neuronal plasticity, and modulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. These actions are theorized to underlie their effects in reducing depressive symptoms, improving neurogenesis and synaptic plasticity, and alleviating anxiety and depressive symptoms associated with major depressive disorder (MDD), menopausal syndrome, and neuroendocrine dysfunctions. The primary route of administration is intramuscular injection.
