Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hypovolol is an antihypertensive medication containing nebivolol, a third-generation, highly selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist. Developed and marketed by the Syrian company Barakat Pharmaceutical Industries, it is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. Nebivolol is distinguished from older beta-blockers by its dual mechanism of action: it reduces blood pressure by decreasing heart rate and myocardial contractility through beta-1 blockade, and it promotes vasodilation by stimulating the release of nitric oxide from the vascular endothelium via the L-arginine/nitric oxide pathway. This results in a reduction of peripheral vascular resistance. Hypovolol is available in oral tablet form in strengths ranging from 2.5 mg to 20 mg.
