Overview
HYR-PB21 is a long-acting, sustained-release liposomal formulation of the local anesthetic bupivacaine, developed by Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals. It is specifically designed for regional analgesia, such as paravertebral nerve blocks, to provide prolonged pain relief. Bupivacaine, the active ingredient, functions by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels on the internal surface of nerve cell membranes, thereby preventing the generation and conduction of nerve impulses. This formulation aims to extend the duration of action compared to standard bupivacaine injections, making it suitable for managing chronic pain conditions like postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) and acute postoperative pain. HYR-PB21 is currently being evaluated in Phase I clinical trials for its efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetic profile in patients with PHN.
