Overview

Hyssopus cuspidatus volatile oil (HVO), also referred to by the sponsor code SXC, is a natural product extract derived from *Hyssopus cuspidatus Boriss.*, a plant used in traditional Uyghur medicine. The oil is a complex mixture of monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, alcohols, hydrocarbons, and ketones, with major constituents including berbenone, β-pinene, pinocamphone, and eucalyptol. HVO is being investigated for its potential in treating respiratory conditions, particularly steroid-resistant asthma (SRA) and allergic asthma, as well as vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC). Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formation by targeting neutrophil elastase, and the modulation of several inflammatory signaling pathways, including PI3K/Akt/JNK/P38 and TLR4/NF-κB/NLRP3. The compound is currently in the preclinical research stage and is being studied by various institutions in China, with material provided by Dingyuan Biomedical Technology.
