Overview

HZN-602 is an oral fixed-dose combination of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug naproxen with the H2 receptor antagonist famotidine, developed by Horizon Pharma (now Horizon Therapeutics) to reduce the risk of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-induced upper gastrointestinal ulcers while maintaining the analgesic and anti-inflammatory efficacy of naproxen.[1][3][5][11][13] The rationale is that naproxen provides cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibition for pain and arthritis symptom control, whereas famotidine suppresses gastric acid secretion to improve the gastrointestinal safety profile associated with chronic NSAID therapy in patients with mild to moderate pain and arthritis.[1][11][13]
