Drug intelligence / Profile preview
I-DROP is a family of viscoadaptive artificial tear solutions developed by I-MED Pharma for the management of dry eye disease and ocular surface irritation. The primary active ingredient across the product line is sodium hyaluronate, a high-molecular-weight glycosaminoglycan that provides superior lubrication and hydration to the cornea. The viscoadaptive technology allows the formulation to change its rheological properties in response to blinking: the solution thins during the blink to ensure clear vision and thickens between blinks to provide a long-lasting, protective coating. This dual action reduces the frequency of application compared to traditional artificial tears. The product range includes preservative-free formulations and specialized versions like I-DROP MGD, which incorporates lipid-enhancing agents to stabilize the tear film in patients suffering from evaporative dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction.
