Overview

I-vation TA is a sustained-release intravitreal implant designed for the long-term delivery of triamcinolone acetonide (TA), a synthetic corticosteroid, into the posterior segment of the eye. The implant consists of a titanium helical coil coated with 925 micrograms of triamcinolone acetonide and nonbiodegradable polymers such as poly(methyl methacrylate) and ethylene-vinyl acetate. Its helical shape anchors it to the sclera, maximizing surface area for drug diffusion and enabling controlled release over up to two years. The primary indication under investigation has been diabetic macular edema (DME). Developed by SurModics in partnership with Merck, this device aims to improve patient compliance and reduce side effects compared to repeated intravitreal injections by providing continuous steroid therapy directly at the site of pathology[2][3][4][5][6].
