Overview

**IAMA-097** is a preclinical-stage small molecule chloride modulator developed by IAMA Therapeutics, an Italian biotechnology company founded in 2021 specializing in novel therapies for neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders in children. It selectively inhibits the sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter NKCC1 to restore physiological chloride gradients and inhibitory GABAergic transmission disrupted in neuronal hyperexcitability states. The candidate targets **secondary and rare syndromic forms of autism** (e.g., autism spectrum disorder subtypes associated with genetic syndromes), as well as potentially other brain disorders characterized by cognitive impairment, positioning it as a differentiated follow-on to lead candidate IAMA-6 in IAMA's CNS pipeline.[1][3][4][7][17]
