Overview

IB657 is a protein therapeutic that was developed as an interferon replacement for the treatment of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infections. It was originally discovered by Illumigen Biosciences using a proprietary genetic scanning technology that identified naturally occurring human protein variants associated with resistance to HCV. IB657 was designed to mimic the antiviral activity of these proteins, offering a potential alternative to standard interferon-alpha therapies which are often limited by significant systemic toxicities. Cubist Pharmaceuticals acquired Illumigen in 2007 to advance the program, with an Investigational New Drug (IND) application initially planned for 2008. However, the development of IB657 was subsequently discontinued during the pre-clinical stage.
