Ibacitabine

Ibacitabine is an experimental antineoplastic (anticancer) agent. It is a nucleoside analog and functions as a prodrug, designed to be converted in the body into an active cytotoxic compound that interferes with DNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells, similar to other fluoropyrimidine or cytidine analogs. Ibacitabine was investigated primarily for topical use in the treatment of skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma and actinic keratosis. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of DNA synthesis, leading to cell death in malignant cells. However, development appears to have been discontinued and it has not reached regulatory approval or widespread clinical use.
