Overview
A combination therapy consisting of ibandronate and capecitabine. Ibandronate is a bisphosphonate that inhibits bone resorption, while capecitabine is an oral fluoropyrimidine that is converted to 5-fluorouracil in tumor tissues. This combination was studied in the ICE trial for elderly patients with node-positive/high-risk node-negative early breast cancer. The trial found that the adjuvant combination of capecitabine plus ibandronate did not show significantly better invasive disease-free survival than ibandronate alone in these patients.
