Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Combination of two nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates (ibandronate and zoledronic acid) that inhibit osteoclast function and prevent bone resorption. Both drugs bind to hydroxyapatite in bone and inhibit farnesyl diphosphate synthase in the mevalonate pathway, leading to disruption of GTP-binding proteins and osteoclast apoptosis. The combination has shown synergistic effects in some studies, particularly when used with anticancer drugs.
