Overview
IBI-20089 is a sustained-release intravitreal liquid drug delivery system containing triamcinolone acetonide, a synthetic corticosteroid. Developed by Icon Bioscience using its proprietary Verisome technology, the drug is designed for the treatment of cystoid macular edema (CME) associated with retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Upon injection into the vitreous, the Verisome system forms a semi-opaque, biodegradable depot (often appearing as a milky ball) that provides controlled and sustained release of the active ingredient over an extended period, potentially lasting up to one year. This delivery method aims to maintain therapeutic levels of triamcinolone while reducing the frequency of injections and minimizing the side effects typically associated with traditional intravitreal steroid suspensions.
