Overview

IBIO-100 is an experimental recombinant fusion protein, specifically a high molecular weight multimer composed of the endostatin E4 peptide fused to the human IgG1 Fc region. It is being developed primarily as an anti-fibrotic and angiostatic therapy, with its mechanism of action based on inhibition of angiogenesis and gelatinase (matrix metalloproteinase) activity. IBIO-100 is targeted for diseases characterized by fibrosis, such as systemic scleroderma and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and is also being explored for applications in solid tumors where fibrosis in the tumor microenvironment poses therapeutic challenges. The drug has orphan drug designation for systemic scleroderma[1][3][4][7]. Preclinical data indicate potential for both intravenous and oral administration in animal models. The program was originated from the Medical University of South Carolina and developed by iBio and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, building upon patented endostatin-based technology.
