IBIO-200 is a **virus-like particle (VLP)-based vaccine candidate** developed for the prevention of COVID-19[1][3][13][15][16]. Its design incorporates the receptor binding motif (RBM) of the SARS-CoV-2 virus within the VLP structure, aiming to direct antigen presentation and stimulate both polyfunctional CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses, thereby enhancing the overall immune response[15]. The VLP format enables high-density, multivalent antigen display, interacting with immune cells differently than soluble antigens and triggering both humoral and cellular immunity[15][9]. IBIO-200 was engineered using iBio's FastPharming System™, which utilizes plant-based bioproduction for rapid, scalable manufacturing[1][13][16]. It was developed collaboratively by iBio and Beijing CC Pharming, with additional preclinical and test support from the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI)[1][13][15]. IBIO-200 reached preclinical and early immunization studies, and while some antibody induction was observed, development was later discontinued in favor of other candidates with higher immunogenicity such as IBIO-201[3][9][15].
