Overview

IBP-1122 is an engineered live biotherapeutic product (LBP) being developed by Infant Bacterial Therapeutics (IBT) for the prevention of antibiotic-resistant hospital-acquired infections caused by vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). The drug consists of a bacterial strain specifically engineered to eliminate VRE from the human microbiome, particularly the gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing the risk of systemic infection and transmission. This technology was originally developed by researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), including Drs. Nita Salzman, Chris Kristich, and Sushma Kommineni, and IBT holds an exclusive global license for its development. IBP-1122 is currently in the early stages of development as part of IBT's pipeline of bacterial-based therapies aimed at addressing unmet needs in vulnerable populations.
