Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IBSA Iron is a dietary supplement developed by IBSA Institut Biochimique SA, utilizing their proprietary FilmTec™ orodispersible film (ODF) technology. The product is a combination of ferric pyrophosphate, a source of elemental iron, and folic acid (Vitamin B9). It is designed for the management of iron deficiency and to support individuals with increased nutritional requirements for these components, such as women of childbearing age. The ODF formulation is intended to provide a convenient, water-free administration route that dissolves rapidly in the mouth, potentially improving patient compliance and optimizing the rate and extent of iron absorption compared to traditional oral capsules. Clinical evaluation has focused on comparing its pharmacokinetic profile to other iron formulations, such as sucrosomial iron preparations.
