Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Antarène Codéine is an oral combination analgesic developed by Laboratoire des Réalisations Thérapeutiques ELERTE. It contains 400 mg of ibuprofen, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and 30 mg of codeine phosphate, an opioid analgesic. Ibuprofen provides analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), which reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins. Codeine acts as a central analgesic by binding to mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system, altering the perception of and emotional response to pain. This combination is indicated for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe acute pain in adults that is not relieved by other analgesics such as paracetamol or ibuprofen alone.
