Overview

**Ibuprofen + diphenhydramine hydrochloride** is a fixed-dose combination of two active pharmaceutical ingredients: ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic properties, and diphenhydramine hydrochloride, a first-generation antihistamine with sedative properties. The combination is primarily indicated as an over-the-counter nighttime pain reliever and sleep aid for the relief of minor aches and pains when they cause occasional insomnia. **Ibuprofen** acts mainly by reversible inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in pain, fever, and inflammation. **Diphenhydramine hydrochloride** antagonizes histamine H1 receptors in the central nervous system, producing sedative and hypnotic effects, and also possesses anticholinergic activity. The product is formulated as oral capsules or liquid gels, commonly containing 200 mg ibuprofen with 25 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride per unit dose[1][2].
