Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ibuprofen and naproxen are both nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that work by temporarily preventing the body from releasing prostaglandins, which contribute to inflammation, pain, and fever. Both medications reduce inflammation and treat minor aches and pains from conditions such as toothaches, headaches, backaches, muscle aches, menstrual cramps, and the common cold. They also temporarily reduce fever. However, taking these two medications together is not recommended as it does not provide additional pain relief and increases the risk of side effects, particularly gastrointestinal issues including stomach ulcers and bleeding.
