Overview

This drug is a fixed-dose **oral combination** of three active ingredients: **ibuprofen** (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID), **phenylephrine** (a sympathomimetic decongestant), and **chlorpheniramine** (a first-generation antihistamine). It is used for the short-term relief of symptoms associated with allergies and the common cold, such as runny or stuffy nose, itchy or watery eyes, sneezing, minor aches and pains, headache, sinus pressure, and fever. Ibuprofen blocks cyclooxygenase-mediated prostaglandin synthesis to reduce pain, inflammation, and fever; phenylephrine acts as an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist to vasoconstrict nasal passages; chlorpheniramine competitively inhibits histamine H1 receptors to alleviate allergic symptoms[1][2][3][5][6].
