Overview

Ibuprofen + trometamol is a combination formulation in which the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) ibuprofen is present as its salt with trometamol (also known as tromethamine or tris). This formulation is designed to enhance the solubility and absorption of ibuprofen, allowing for more rapid onset of analgesic action compared to standard formulations. Ibuprofen acts primarily by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis involved in pain, inflammation, and fever. Trometamol serves as a buffering agent that increases the water solubility of ibuprofen but does not have direct pharmacological activity related to pain or inflammation. The primary indication for this combination is the treatment of mild-to-moderate pain and inflammation.
