Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ibuprofen arginine is a salt form of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) ibuprofen, combined with the amino acid L-arginine. This formulation is designed to enhance the solubility and absorption of ibuprofen, resulting in faster onset of action compared to standard ibuprofen preparations[5][8]. Ibuprofen acts as a non-selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase enzymes COX‑1 and COX‑2, thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever[6][8]. The addition of L‑arginine not only improves pharmacokinetics but may also contribute beneficial effects through nitric oxide generation, which can further modulate inflammation[4]. Ibuprofen arginine is primarily indicated for rapid relief of mild to moderate pain associated with headache, toothache, musculoskeletal disorders, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and fever[1][5].
