Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Ibuprofen TEPI Medicated Plaster is a novel transdermal drug delivery system developed by Medherant Ltd for the localized treatment of pain. Utilizing the proprietary TEPI Patch® technology, this drug-in-adhesive formulation allows for high drug loading of ibuprofen (200 mg) and provides sustained delivery through the skin directly to the site of pain for up to 24 hours. As a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), ibuprofen works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes to reduce prostaglandin synthesis. Clinical data from Phase I trials indicate that the patch is well-tolerated and results in lower systemic blood levels of ibuprofen compared to oral administration, which may reduce the risk of systemic side effects such as gastrointestinal irritation while maintaining therapeutic efficacy at the application site.
