Overview
Ibuproxam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and a prodrug of ibuprofen. It is metabolized in the body to release the active compound, ibuprofen, which exerts analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects. Like other NSAIDs, its mechanism of action involves reversible inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), leading to decreased synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate pain, inflammation, and fever. Ibuproxam was developed as an alternative to direct administration of ibuprofen with the aim of reducing gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with NSAIDs.
