Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ICaps is a high-dose antioxidant dietary supplement formulation originally manufactured by Alcon Laboratories. It contains a combination of vitamins (A, C, E, riboflavin), minerals (zinc, copper, selenium, manganese), and carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin). The formulation was investigated in a Phase 2 randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial by the Prince of Songkla University in Thailand for the treatment of acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). The therapeutic rationale was based on the hypothesis that oxidative stress and free radicals contribute to choroidal vascular hyperpermeability in CSC. However, the clinical study concluded that the supplement did not significantly improve visual acuity or reduce central macular thickness compared to placebo.
