Overview

ICC-1132 is a recombinant virus-like particle malaria vaccine candidate composed of a modified hepatitis B virus core particle (HBc) engineered to express protective epitopes from the circumsporozoite (CS) protein of Plasmodium falciparum. The vaccine contains both B-cell epitopes (NANP)3 from the CS repeat region and T-cell epitopes, including HLA-restricted CD4+ T-cell epitopes (NANPNVDP), a universal T-cell epitope (T*) from the carboxyl terminus of CS, and at least one CD8+ T-cell epitope. When expressed in Escherichia coli, the recombinant protein forms virus-like particles designed to elicit strong immune responses against malaria.
