iCELL-Autism is an investigational cell therapy developed by iCELL Biotechnology for the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The therapy utilizes Human Amniotic Epithelial Stem Cells (hAESCs), which are pluripotent-like cells derived from the inner lining of the human placenta. These cells are characterized by their low immunogenicity, lack of telomerase (which reduces the risk of tumorigenicity), and their ability to secrete a wide range of bioactive factors, including neurotrophic factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines. In the context of autism, iCELL-Autism is intended to modulate the immune system and reduce neuroinflammation, which are hypothesized to be key contributors to the pathophysiology of the disorder. The drug is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
