iCELL-SCI is an investigational cell therapy developed by iCELL Biotechnology for the treatment of spinal cord injury (SCI). The therapy utilizes Human Amniotic Epithelial Stem Cells (hAESCs), which are harvested from the amniotic membrane of the human placenta. These cells possess stem cell-like properties, including the ability to differentiate into multiple cell lineages and secrete various neurotrophic factors. hAESCs are characterized by low immunogenicity and significant immunomodulatory properties, making them suitable for allogeneic transplantation without the need for intensive immunosuppression. In the context of spinal cord injury, iCELL-SCI aims to promote neural repair, axonal regeneration, and functional recovery by modulating the local inflammatory microenvironment and providing neuroprotection. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
