ICES13 is an autologous skeletal muscle-derived cell therapy developed for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence. The therapy involves isolating healthy muscle stem cells from a small biopsy of the patient’s own skeletal muscle, expanding these cells in vitro to obtain sufficient numbers, and then injecting them into the weakened or injured sphincter muscle using a minimally invasive procedure. The goal is to regenerate and strengthen the sphincter by promoting new muscle formation and restoring its function, thereby addressing the underlying cause of stress urinary incontinence rather than just alleviating symptoms. ICES13 has completed phase II clinical trials and is preparing for multi-regional phase III trials across Japan, Europe, and the USA.
