ICI 118551

ICI 118551 is a highly selective β2-adrenergic receptor antagonist (sometimes described as an inverse agonist), with at least 100-fold greater affinity for the β2 subtype compared to β1 and β3 adrenergic receptors. It was originally developed by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), later acquired by AkzoNobel. The compound is widely used in research to study the function of the β2-adrenergic receptor due to its high selectivity and ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. While it has no approved therapeutic use in humans, it has been investigated experimentally for conditions such as essential tremor and clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). In preclinical studies and limited clinical research settings, it has demonstrated effects on vascular tone and tumor growth inhibition[1][2][7][10].
