Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Icolyte-P is a pediatric maintenance intravenous (IV) fluid formulation developed by Ives Drugs India. It is a sterile, non-pyrogenic solution containing a specific balance of electrolytes—including sodium, potassium, magnesium, chloride, and acetate—along with dextrose (glucose). Designed as a 'Type P' solution according to pharmacopeial standards, it is specifically tailored to meet the maintenance fluid and electrolyte requirements of pediatric patients, which differ significantly from those of adults. The dextrose component provides a source of calories and helps prevent ketosis, while the electrolytes maintain osmotic pressure, acid-base balance, and physiological homeostasis. It is indicated for the maintenance of fluid and electrolyte balance in children who are unable to take adequate oral fluids or are suffering from dehydration and electrolyte depletion.
