Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Icosapent ethyl + rosuvastatin + ezetimibe is an oral fixed-dose combination therapy developed by Althera for the management of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk. This triple-combination product utilizes a multi-pathway approach to lipid management: icosapent ethyl (a purified eicosapentaenoic acid ethyl ester) reduces triglyceride levels and exerts anti-inflammatory effects; rosuvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR) to decrease endogenous cholesterol synthesis; and ezetimibe inhibits the NPC1L1 transporter to reduce intestinal cholesterol absorption. By combining these three agents, the therapy aims to achieve significant reductions in LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides while addressing residual inflammatory risk in patients with high cardiovascular risk.
