The combination of icotinib (an epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, EGFR-TKI) and paclitaxel (a chemotherapeutic agent) is a drug regimen that has been studied for its potential synergistic effects in treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Research indicates that the sequence of administration matters, with paclitaxel followed by icotinib producing more antiproliferative effects, inducing more cell apoptosis, and causing more G0/G1 phase arrest in various NSCLC cell lines. Clinical studies have shown that this combination therapy results in a higher overall response rate (64.4%) compared to icotinib alone (46.7%) or chemotherapy alone (26.3%). The combination has been primarily studied for NSCLC, particularly in patients with EGFR mutations, and lung adenocarcinoma.
