Overview

ICP monovalent Papuan taipan antivenom (also referred to as Papuan taipan monovalent IgG anti-venom ICP) is an equine whole-IgG monovalent biologic antivenom developed by the Instituto Clodomiro Picado (ICP) at the University of Costa Rica, in collaboration with the University of Melbourne. It is manufactured by immunizing horses with the venom of the Papuan taipan (*Oxyuranus scutellatus*) from Papua New Guinea, then harvesting and fractionating plasma using caprylic acid precipitation to yield a purified whole IgG preparation. The antivenom is designed to bind and neutralize the neurotoxic and procoagulant components of the Papuan taipan venom. It was developed as a lower-cost alternative to the existing CSL/Seqirus F(ab')2 monovalent taipan antivenom to address severe antivenom shortages in Papua New Guinea. It has undergone preclinical evaluation and Phase 1/2 clinical trials in Papua New Guinea.
