ICT-109 is an autologous dendritic cell-based immunotherapy developed by ImmunoCellular Therapeutics for the treatment of melanoma. The vaccine is produced by harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells and pulsing them with three synthetic peptides representing well-characterized melanoma-associated antigens: gp100, MART-1 (Melanoma Antigen Recognized by T cells 1), and Tyrosinase. Once re-administered to the patient, these activated dendritic cells are intended to migrate to the lymph nodes and prime cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) to identify and destroy tumor cells expressing these specific antigens. Although ICT-109 showed promise in preclinical and early clinical conceptualization, its development was halted following the financial difficulties and subsequent cessation of clinical operations by ImmunoCellular Therapeutics in 2018.
