ICX-RHY is an autologous cell therapy developed by Intercytex for the treatment of facial wrinkles (rhytids) and depressed scars. The product consists of a suspension of the patient's own dermal fibroblasts, which are harvested via a small skin biopsy, expanded in vitro in a specialized manufacturing facility, and then reinjected into the patient's dermis. The mechanism of action involves the direct delivery of active, functional fibroblasts to the site of skin aging or injury. These cells are responsible for the production of essential extracellular matrix components, including Type I and Type III collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycans, which restore skin structure, elasticity, and volume. By replenishing the fibroblast population, ICX-RHY aims to reverse the thinning of the dermis associated with aging and promote biological tissue regeneration. Development of the candidate was halted following the financial restructuring and administration of Intercytex in 2009.
