Overview

Icylube is an ophthalmic lubricant developed and marketed by Austrak, primarily indicated for the temporary relief of burning and irritation due to dryness of the eye. It is a branded generic formulation containing two active demulcents: polyethylene glycol 400 (0.4%) and propylene glycol (0.3%). These ingredients work synergistically to stabilize the tear film and form a protective hydrophilic shield over the corneal and conjunctival epithelium. By enhancing tear viscosity and promoting moisture retention, Icylube helps alleviate symptoms of dry eye syndrome (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) and protects the ocular surface from further irritation caused by environmental factors or decreased tear production.
