Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IDEA-068 is a topical formulation of methotrexate (MTX) utilizing the proprietary Transfersome technology developed by Idea AG. Transfersomes are highly deformable, complex lipid vesicles designed to penetrate the skin barrier more effectively than conventional liposomes by squeezing through narrow intercellular spaces in the stratum corneum. In the treatment of chronic stable plaque psoriasis, IDEA-068 is intended to deliver MTX directly to the epidermis and dermis to inhibit dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), thereby reducing keratinocyte proliferation and local inflammation while minimizing the systemic side effects associated with oral MTX administration. The drug reached Phase 2 clinical development, including a randomized, double-blind, dose-finding study in Germany that compared multiple doses of IDEA-068 to clobetasol propionate (Dermoxinale) and placebo.
