Overview

IDEC-159 is a humanized, domain-deleted monoclonal antibody developed for therapeutic use in oncology. It specifically targets tumor-associated glycoprotein 72 (TAG-72), an antigen commonly expressed on the surface of various cancer cells. IDEC-159 has been investigated primarily as a radiolabeled antibody—most notably conjugated with radioactive isotopes such as Yttrium-90 (90Y) and Indium-111 (111In)—to deliver targeted ionizing radiation to tumor cells expressing TAG-72. The drug was initially developed by Biogen and reached Phase 1/2 clinical trials for metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma but development was discontinued[1][2][3][4]. Its mechanism of action involves both direct inhibition of TAG-72-expressing cells and delivery of cytotoxic radiation via its radiolabel.
