Drug intelligence / Profile preview
IDEOS is a fixed-dose combination of calcium carbonate and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) developed and manufactured by the French pharmaceutical company INNOTHERA. It is primarily indicated for the correction of combined calcium and vitamin D deficiencies in elderly patients and as a supplement in the management of osteoporosis where there is a risk of such deficiencies. Each chewable tablet typically contains 500 mg of elemental calcium (provided as 1250 mg of calcium carbonate) and 400 IU of vitamin D3. The product works by providing the necessary mineral substrate for bone mineralization while the vitamin D3 component enhances the intestinal absorption of calcium and its subsequent fixation in bone tissue. IDEOS is approved and marketed as an over-the-counter (OTC) medication in several countries, including France, Saudi Arabia, and Ireland.
