IdeZ is a recombinant IgG-cleaving cysteine protease derived from *Streptococcus equi* subsp. *zooepidemicus* that specifically cuts immunoglobulin G below the hinge region, rapidly generating F(ab')2 and Fc fragments and thereby transiently eliminating functional circulating IgG. It has primarily been used as a research reagent for antibody fragmentation and analytical characterization, and it has also been investigated preclinically as an immune-debulking approach to overcome pre-existing anti-AAV neutralizing antibodies and enable adeno-associated virus gene transfer. Unlike imlifidase, which is the clinically developed IgG-cleaving enzyme from *Streptococcus pyogenes*, IdeZ itself does not appear to be an approved therapeutic product.
