This personalized DNA vaccine, developed by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, is an investigational immunotherapy designed for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The vaccine utilizes a DNA plasmid vector that incorporates the genetic sequence of the patient's own cancer cell immunoglobulin, specifically the idiotype. By delivering this genetic material via injection, the vaccine aims to induce the patient's immune system to mount both humoral and cellular responses against the unique idiotype expressed on the surface of their CLL cells. This approach is primarily evaluated in patients with previously untreated, early-stage (Binet Stage A) CLL to assess safety and the ability to shrink or slow the growth of the malignancy.
