Overview

Idoxuridine I-125 is an experimental **iodine-125 radiolabeled thymidine analogue**. It is taken up by proliferating cells and incorporated into newly synthesized DNA during S phase; decay of DNA-incorporated iodine-125 releases short-range Auger electrons that produce highly localized DNA damage, including double-strand breaks, and can kill labeled cells. It was investigated as a DNA-targeted radiopharmaceutical for locoregional treatment of solid tumors, including colorectal cancer metastatic to the liver, but it is not an approved marketed product.
