Idrabiotaparinux is a synthetic, biotinylated pentasaccharide anticoagulant developed by Sanofi for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and venous thromboembolism (VTE). It is a long-acting indirect inhibitor of activated factor X (Factor Xa), exerting its effect by binding to antithrombin. Structurally, it is an equimolar derivative of idraparinux with a biotin moiety covalently attached via a linker. This biotinylation allows for the rapid neutralization of its anticoagulant activity through the intravenous administration of avidin, addressing the long half-life associated with the parent compound. Despite showing comparable efficacy and potentially improved safety in the Phase III EQUINOX trial, Sanofi discontinued its development in 2011.
