Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Idrocilamide is a small molecule skeletal muscle relaxant and anti-inflammatory drug used primarily as a topical cream to treat lumbago and other types of muscular pain. It is available by prescription or over-the-counter in France and several other countries. Mechanistically, idrocilamide acts on the central nervous system by influencing motor neurons that control muscle activity. At the cellular level, it decreases sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium release within muscle fibers and facilitates voltage-dependent inactivation of the voltage sensor for excitation-contraction coupling externally. Additionally, it is a potent inhibitor of caffeine metabolism[1][4][5][6].
