Overview

IDX21459 is a uridine nucleotide prodrug developed by Idenix Pharmaceuticals as an investigational antiviral agent for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It was designed to inhibit the HCV RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (NS5B), thereby blocking viral replication. IDX21459 demonstrated minimal cytotoxicity in mammalian cells and low inhibition of key human enzymes and transporters, with favorable preclinical safety data. The drug advanced to Phase 1 clinical trials but its development was ultimately terminated.
