Overview

Iferanserin is a small molecule drug that acts as a selective antagonist of the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor. It was developed primarily as an intra-rectal formulation for the treatment of hemorrhoid disease. The drug reached phase III clinical trials for this indication but development has since been discontinued. Iferanserin was initially developed by Assembly Biosciences and investigated in both the United States and Germany for internal hemorrhoids.
