Overview

Ifetroban is a potent and selective oral thromboxane (TxA2) and prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) receptor antagonist that blocks the TP receptor. By inhibiting these receptors, it prevents platelet activation and aggregation as well as vascular constriction, leading to antithrombotic effects and vasodilation. It also has anti-hypertensive, anti-asthmatic properties and potential anti-metastatic activity by reducing platelet-mediated cancer metastasis. Ifetroban has been studied in animal models for cancer metastasis, myocardial ischemia, hypertension, stroke, thrombosis and cardiomyopathy. Clinically it is being developed primarily for cardiac function improvement in Duchenne muscular dystrophy-associated cardiomyopathy as well as systemic sclerosis (scleroderma), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and other rare diseases.
